Six Two Six

the distance, but to measure my love;
I could tell you distance makes
the heart grow fonder, and
I could tell you that love
doesn't count the miles between us -
but all of this you already know.
Every cliche I could utter, we know
because we are living this feeling.
There is a band of elastic between
our hearts, stretched tight, creaking
and stretching as it desperately tries
to shrink the space between us.
Being one foot from you is too far
and I long to reach out and touch you
but try as I might, I cannot reach.
But though we are oceans apart
you are always with me when I sleep
I see your face, I taste your lips
and feel your warmth against me
as if between our two souls
there was no distance at all. I know
that there is no space between us;
though physically we count the miles
our hearts are one and the same.
